I didn’t know much about Sam Gordon when I picked up this book, but I am definitely walking away as a cheering fan after having read it! The book is written in Sam’s own words, in an engaging format which young readers and adults alike will enjoy. The chapters are filled with fun sidebar factoids about Sam and her history, vital stats, and astonishing accomplishments. These “snapshots” of Sam, along with actual photographs which are peppered throughout the book, provide a unique insight into an exceptionally driven and talented young athlete. I really did marvel at both her character and her accomplishments in every chapter.

Yes, Sam became an “overnight sensation,” but I was blown away at her drive to excel long before she even imagined that she would tackle the challenge of playing football in an all-boys’ league. She has wicked-amazing abilities, but her preparation, drive, and determination led to her success. Still, Sam demonstrates that there are more important things in life than just winning. Sam has changed lives, influenced others, and remains humble throughout. She credits her family, coach, and teammates for her success. Sam exemplifies not just the best about sports, but the best about what it means to be a friend, a teammate, a sister and daughter, and an example to others. Sam “realized that she can make a real difference,” and says that is why she is sharing her story. It’s a story of much more than just sports. It’s a story that I will definitely share with my son, who faces many challenges of his own.

Sam’s charm, both on and off the field, shines through in her narrative. Sam Gordon rocks!

My girls and I definitely enjoyed this book. I’d say it’s written for a “tween,” but as an adult I still found the topic and the writing interesting and enjoyable. And even though we’re not a “sports” family, I really like how Sam can be a role model to my girls. They won’t face the exact challenges Sam did, like how she was drafted way down on the list after being the best player at tryouts, presumably just because she is a girl. But like Sam, they will someday face disappointment and discrimination. So I can point to Sam and say, “Look how determined she was to work hard and prove them wrong.” And she totally did just that. I also really, really like how Sam talked in the book about education being important to her. The fact that she is focusing on education, and not just sports, is a big plus to me. As is how humble and grounded Sam appears to be. Despite all her fame, Sam just comes across as the girl next door. I think it’s hard to find modern role models. But Sam is definitely one of them! There is nothing I found offensive or even mildly inappropriate for young readers in the book. Go Sam Gordon!

Sweet feet Gordon is an awesome inspiration to boys and girls of all ages! Her attitude of humility and sweetness is truly a godsend.
I love this book. It really inspired me. She did a really good job writing the story and added a lot of details and pictures. This book is in my tops and I don't like to read nonfiction books but I loved this book! I hope you read this book!
Students really enjoyed reading this nonfiction text. It was good for them to hear Samantha's story. There is also a very short video to watch on You Tube about this remarkable athlete.
This book is definitely a five star rating. I really like that Sam thinks that her fame wasn't just because of her, it was because of everyone else to. Sam is a caring person, and she respects other people. When I read that she feels sorry for her stepmom and helps her do the dishes when her siblings are playing, I was so shocked. Since she was a football player, I thought she would be tough and rude and call little kids punk..But she surprised me by being caring and tough at the same time. Am just saying, this book is amazing.
I enjoyed this book a lot. What I liked the most was Sam's descriptions of her childhood and her travels. Sam came across to me as a peoples person, sharing her appreciation and respect for the many she met throughout her journey. I didn't count exactly how many people Sam mentions by name, but maybe close to one hundred Coaches, celebrities, fellow players, etc. This is a fine book for children I think. It is about believing in yourself and dare stepping out of the secure commonplace into the arena of the unconventional for the love of the game. And this game could be any game. It is about the joy of discovering your talent, knowing who you are, and truly appreciating the people around you.
