Daedalus A Tale of Savannah eBook Albert Davenport Anniken Davenport Reviews
I bought this book because I am from Savannah and the summary intrigued me. Boy was I disappointed. Luckily Daedalus was short, because it was a waste of my time. The author's attempt at imagery fails, and the storyline is not very interesting. When writing about Savannah, most authors can accurately describe the city's atmosphere. And it isn't hard, with the cobblestone streets, the moss hanging in the trees, and the wet heat. This author had a hard time. I also felt that this story piggybacked on the popularity of Midnight in the Garden of Evil, but not in a good way. That especially bugged me.
This short non-fiction piece is captivating. Creatively written, and delightfully original while telling a tragic story of human frailness. Highly recommend.
This is an exquisitely-written and obviously thoroughly researched account of the decline of a gentile Savannah family that, in a way, mirrors the more general decline of the gentile south. Mr. and Mrs. Davenport have done an extraordinary job of bringing to life Bob and Tina Stoddard. I would recommend this piece to anyone interested in Savannah, past or present.
$2.99 for only a few pages. Thought this was a book. Should be listed somewhere that this isn't a full book but only a few pages.
This is a well written and disturbing piece. It's mercifully short, which is a good thing. Why prolong a downward spiral? I'm left shaking my head, with pity for those involved, and a sense of unease that any of us could end up in similar straights.
The worst thing is, that I GOT a quick reference to the dark teeming windows. I think ordinarily I would have missed that, but fate was unkind and now I will carry the disturbing visual image.
Recommended.
